BOULDER — Clean-energy company BoostBox H2 is the recent recipient of a $200,000 grant from the Department of Energy, which will go to testing the company’s hydrogen-based method for reducing diesel emissions.
The Boulder-based company partnered with Atlanta’s NG1 Technologies and is subcontracting with Pasadena,Calif.-based CALSTART.
“We started working on a way to reduce the emissions from diesel engines,” David Rechberger, CEO of BoostBox H2, told BizWest. “Right now, the leading technology to reduce emissions is a filter. But if the filter gets full, you have to maintenance them. And they can be concerning because they collect a lot of things that don’t burn and become a hazardous-material containment issue. We believe the best way to reduce the emissions is without filtration.”

BoostBox H2, a Boulder, CO based Hydrogen on Demand company has been awarded a $220k sub-contract grant for “Innovative Duel Fuel Aftermarket Emissions Solutions Project” from CALSTART, Inc. BoostBox H2, a Semi-finalist in the 2015 CleanTech Open, along with our partner NG1 TechFlo Exhaust (winner of the 2014 CleanTech Open) have partnered to share the total $1.28M grant to develop new emissions technologies that will reduce the environmental impact of diesel engines.
“We are very excited to be working to provide the industry with alternative solutions to reduce harmful greenhouse gasses and particulate emissions from diesel engines while simultaneously improving fuel efficiency. This will have great impacts not only for the over-the road-transportation market, but in stationary power, construction, marine and all other engine applications” say David Rechberger, Chief Executive and Chief Technology Officer of BoostBox H2.
